On All Souls Day we remember…

All Souls Day is a time when the Church commemorates all the faithful departed. November is also a special time in which Dehonians celebrate the lives of those who have gone before us, culminating with November 26, SCJ Memorial Day. We begin the month with a reflection on Fr. Bill DeWitte, SCJ, (1914-1994) a missionary, and later a member of the Canadian Region. It was written by Fr. Peter McKenna, SCJ, who was with Fr. Bill when he died.

Syrian refugees become part of Canadian mosaic

Last year Dehonians in Ottawa, in partnership with those who join the community in worship on Sundays, welcomed a refugee family from Syria. The Dehonians joined Canadians across the country in a national project to welcome, sponsor and resettle Syrians who had fled their country as it plunged deeper into a violent civil war. On October 22, the family celebrated its first year in Canada. They did so by thanking those who helped them through food: a meal of Syrian dishes.
