Following the afternoon activities, reunion participants will join SCJs at the Province Jubilee Celebration tonight (June 10) at Sacred Heart Monastery, beginning with Mass at 4:30 p.m.

The SCJ jubilarians include Fr. Ed Griesemer and Fr. Paul Casper (70 years of religious vows), Fr. Tom Westhoven and Br. Andy Lewandowski (60 years of vows), Fr. Jim Walters, Fr. Yvon Sheehy and Fr. The Province Assembly begins at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow, June 11, in the Provincial Conference Center, with a combined session of SCJs and reunion participants. Following opening prayer and introductions, the group will reflect on the question: ““How has knowing Fr. Dehon and the SCJs affected your values and the way you live your life?”

The two groups will have separate programs after lunch, with the reunion concluding its gathering with dinner at SHSST Tuesday evening with SCJs, followed by music from a mariachi band in the lobby. The Province Assembly continues until midday on Friday, June 14. As with the jubilee celebrations, be sure to check the province Facebook page for photos throughout the week.

A special note of welcome to members of the Canadian Region, several of whom are also taking part in the assembly. On Wednesday evening, the two North American administrations will have dinner together and a brief meeting.

St. Joe’s students during their cultural trip

St. Joseph’s students visit sacred sites of ancestors

St. Joseph’s Indian School students embarked on a six-day, five-night cultural trip in May to visit important and sacred sites of their ancestors. It gave them the opportunity to walk where their ancestors once walked, and pray where they once prayed.

Before St. Joseph’s students and staff hit the road, they took part in a purification ceremony of the Lakota (Sioux).

At each site, the students were able to explore, pray and reflect upon the stories of their Native people. They also met and learned from Lakota elders, park rangers and historians.
