A return to Africa after 23 years

From 1982 – 1991 Br. Leonard Elder, SCJ, was a missionary in the African country of Zaire. On November 17, he returns for the first time in 23 years. “[In Africa] God, through the voices of many people, called me again to pursue studies for the priesthood,” said Fr. Leonard.

The Dehon Formation House in Chicago is home to an international, intergenerational community of professed SCJs and those discerning religious life with the congregation. The community not only houses the initial formation programs (candidacy, novitiate, philosophy and theology) of the province but also welcomes SCJs from around the world on sabbatical or in graduate programs. On October 21 Fr. Yulius Sunardi, SCJ, successfully defended his doctoral thesis “Predictive Factors for Commitment to the Priestly Vocation: a Study of Priests and Seminarians.” Members of the Sacred Heart Monastery Community were among those who attended the defense at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis. (USA).
