Jesus,
on the first day of the week
you rose from the dead.
You appeared to your disciples,
imparting a joy that no one can take from them
and a peace that the world cannot give.
As you breathed the Holy Spirit into them,
you sent them forth to bear fruit that would last.

With Thomas, the Apostle,
we contemplate your wounded side
and acknowledge you as our Lord and God.
Send us forth to bear witness to you,
the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.
By knowing you and the One who sent you,
may everyone experience the joy and peace
of eternal life.

Amen.

March 24 Lenten reflection

Click here to access the livestream recording of last week’s Lenten Recollection for employees, associates and other Dehonian collaborators. The topic was “What is the Sacred Heart, and does it matter in our broken world,” presented by Monica Misey, Director of Dehonian Associates.

Hearts on Fire!

Over 50 young adults (ages 18-39) from across southeastern Wisconsin gathered at Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology for a day-long retreat on Saturday, March 28. Titled “Hearts on Fire,” the retreat was a collaboration between the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network (PWPN), the Brew City Catholic young adult group, and the Priests of the Sacred Heart.

Fr. Rafael Querobin, SCJ, and Br. Duane Lemke, SCJ, offered the first talk of the day – “A Heart Looking for Hearts” – which was about welcoming the Heart of Christ into our hearts and our circles.

Other talks were given by Grace Mazza Urbanski, Assistant National Director of the PWPN, Fr. Phil Hurley, SJ, National Director PWPN, and Fr. Aaron Pierre, SJ. The day also included Mass, and time for confessions and spiritual conversations.

“We are grateful to Fr. Rafael for presiding, preaching and hearing confessions, Br. Duane for holding spiritual conversations, Fr. Joseph Thien Dinh, SCJ, for hearing confessions, SHSST seminarians Paul Sainato and Donovan Trentin for serving as sacristans, and especially for Rachel Allison for assisting on the day of the event,” said Monica Misey, speaking for the organizing group. “Many thanks to those who kept these young adults in their prayers on Saturday.”

SCJ named bishop of Münster

Last week Pope Leo XIV appointed Bishop Heiner Wilmer, SCJ, as Bishop of Münster. Germany’s largest diocese by Catholic population, its bishop’s chair had been vacant for a year following the retirement of its previous bishop in March, 2025. Bishop Wilmer, who was elected president of the German Bishops’ Conference in February, was superior general of the Priests of the Sacred Heart when he was named by Pope Francis as bishop of Hildesheim in 2018.

Please remember

+ Fr. Antoni Osowski, a member of the Polish Province, died on March 21. He was born in 1940, professed in 1966 and ordained in 1970.

Keep in prayer

Fr. Byron Haaland, SCJ, has been in rehab for the past five weeks following a fall at home and surgical repair of his hip. He has also received a cancer diagnosis; his medical team is looking at various treatment options. Mail can continue to be sent to him at the Novitiate.

Three New Dehonian Associates!

On February 8, Jim and Pam McCollum (pictured above) made commitments as Dehonian Associates. The McCollums are parishioners at Our Lady of Guadalupe parish in Houston. Fr. Henry Nguyen, SCJ, celebrated the Mass in which the commitments were made.

On March 22, Joe Tyrell (pictured below) made his commitment as an Associate during a Mass celebrated by Fr. Greg Schill, SCJ, at St. Joseph’s Indian School. Joe is Director of Mission Integration at St. Joseph’s, a member of the Dehonian Associates Committee, and one of the founders of the LEAD leadership retreats.

Several renewals and new commitments for Dehonian Associates are anticipated on Feast of the Sacred Heart.
