Meet the new administration

With the election of Fr. Christianus Hendrik, SCJ, as the final member of the new Provincial Council, members of the U.S. Province concluded their Election Assembly on Thursday, June 6. here is a look at the new administration, which will take office on August 1.


A new provincial council!

Following Fr. Stephen Huffstetter’s election as provincial superior on Wednesday, June 5, members of the U.S. Province completed the election of their Provincial Council on June 6.


Fr. Stephen Huffstetter elected provincial superior!

On Wednesday, June 5, members of the U.S. Province of the Priests of the Sacred Heart elected Fr. Stephen Huffstetter, SCJ, as their next provincial superior. Fr. Steve, 54, is currently executive director of St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain, S.D.


Cardinal Nagy, long-time friend of Blessed John Paul II, dies

Cardinal Stanislaus Nagy, SCJ, friend and advisor to Blessed John Paul II, died today, June 5. He was 91. Born on September 30, 1921, at Bierun Stary, Poland, he made his first profession of vows with the Priests of the Sacred Heart on September 22, 1938; he was ordained a priest on June 8, 1945.

Feast of the Sacred Heart

Feast of the Sacred Heart is next Friday, June 7. As is tradition, the superior general and his council wrote a letter to commemorate the congregation’s feast day. “Our vocation and mission [is] a prophecy of love and a service of reconciliation,” starts Fr. General in his letter. “Father Dehon expected his religious to be prophets of love and servants of reconciliation of people and the world in Christ.”

Reaching out to Congolese youth

Many of Kisangani’s youth have only known a life of war and violence. Calm is often just a brief breath of fresh air in the midst of protest and conflict. The city is the third largest in the Democratic Republic of Congo and it reflects much of the struggles of the country itself. In the midst of this, the Priests of the Sacred Heart created “Gradi-Jeunes.”


Provincial Chapter

Every six years the province holds a chapter  — in part — to prepare for the General Chapter, which takes place a year later, at the Generalate in Rome.
