A new provincial administration!

The US Province elected a new administration during its Election Assembly August 24-27. Fr. Ed Kilianski, SCJ, becomes the 15th provincial superior. Members of the new Provincial Council include: Fr. Quang Nguyen, Fr. Duy Nguyen, Fr. Christianus Hendrik, Fr. Jack Kurps
and Br. Frank Presto


Fr. Ed Kilianski elected as provincial superior

On the first ballot during the Election Assembly today, August 25, Fr. Ed Kilianski, SCJ, was elected as the 15th provincial superior of the US Province of the Priests of the Sacred Heart. He succeeds Fr. Stephen Huffstetter, SCJ, who was elected to the General Council in June.

“I stand before you as your servant,” said Fr. Ed in accepting the election. “There is a lot of good here in us, and in the Church. “I hope each of you will challenge me and our council, but I especially hope that you will challenge yourselves — challenge ourselves –– to be who we have been called to be as Dehonians.”


Former superior general named bishop

On August 24, the Vatican announced that Fr. José Ornelas Carvalho, SCJ, former superior general of the Priests of the Sacred Heart, has been named bishop of Setúbal, Portugal (approximately 25 miles south of Lisbon).

Bringing history to life

In conjunction with Ste. Marie’s annual “Cork and Pork” festival, the Ste. Marie Foundation opened “Amazing Grace: 1837 to Now,” a historical look at the role of churches in the small Illinois town. Fr. Wayne Jenkins, province archivist, helped to develop one of the displays. Fr. Wayne, along with Frater Justin Krenke, Fr. Patrick Gutib and Fr. Joseph Butlig, traveled to Ste. Marie for the July 25 opening.


48 years later, SCJ celebrates Mass at church of 1st profession

Fr. Wayne Jenkins, province archivist, went to Ste. Marie, Il., the weekend of July 25 to attend the Ste. Marie Foundation’s opening of “Amazing Grace: 1837 – Now.” While there he was invited by the foundation to celebrate Mass at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. It was the same church that he professed his first vows in 1967. This was Fr. Wayne’s first time celebrating Mass in the church. Click here to read his homily.
