“This particular moment in my journey makes me realize how blessed I am to be a Dehonian”
-Frater Hung Pham, SCJ
On June 9, Frater Hung Pham, SCJ, made his perpetual profession of vows with the Priests of the Sacred Heart (Dehonians) during the opening liturgy of the US Province Election Assembly. The ceremony took place in the Good Shepherd Chapel at Sacred Heart at Monastery Lake in Franklin, WI.
“This particular moment in my journey makes me realize how blessed I am to be a Dehonian, as I am called to be a prophet of love and to share this message with the people whom I serve,” said Fra. Hung. “My perpetual vows do not signify an ending; rather, they represent a continuous love for God and service to His people. I need to perpetually bring God’s love to others and to step out of the sacristy to serve His people.”
Originally from Vietnam, Fra. Hung moved to Houston in 2008. He earned a degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Houston and worked as a Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH) analyst before pursuing his religious vocation. Fra. Hung is 38 and professed his first vows with the Dehonians in 2015.
Fra. Hung began his theology studies at Catholic Theological Union, and is now a seminarian at Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology in Hales Corners, WI. He anticipates graduation in December, 2025.
He did his Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston in the summer of 2022, and his pastoral year of ministry at Our Lady of Guadalupe, also in Houston.
“At Our Lady of Guadalupe I enjoyed being involved in faith formation, quinceaneras, and other sacramental preparation, as well as teaching Dehonian Spirituality to our Dehonian Youth, Dehonian Associates, and students at the school,” said Fra. Hung.
Br. Ray Kozuch, SCJ, was Fra. Hung’s final vows director.
Fra. Hung is preparing for ordained ministry; his diaconate ordination is tentatively planned for December, following the completion of his seminary studies.
The Election Assembly for the US Province runs from June 9-13. During the assembly, members of the province will elect the provincial superior and five-member council for 2025-2028.
