We must commit ourselves to compassion and courage
During its December 15-16 meeting the Provincial Council of the US Province of the Priests of the Sacred Heart approved a public statement regarding the growing refugee crisis. It was sent to national elected leadership and media. “Let us re-commit ourselves to our cherished principles of compassion and courage,” wrote members of the council. “Otherwise terrorism will have succeeded not only in killing and displacing thousands, but also in causing us to abandon the ideals that have made us a great country. Welcoming these refugees will show the terrorists that they cannot win, and will do far more than bombs ever can do to win the hearts and minds of people in the Middle East and around the world.”

SCJ parish helping refugees one family at a time
On Thursday, December 10, the first airlift of Syrian refugees are scheduled to arrive in Toronto. A second flight is expected to land in Montréal on December 12. These are the first steps toward the Canadian government’s goal to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees by the end of 2016. Among the many who are stepping forward to greet the Syrians are the parishioners of Resurrection of Our Lord parish in Ottawa. The parish is ministered to by the Priests of the Sacred Heart; Fr.
